Toshiba America believes that good corporate citizenship is an integral part of its commitment to the communities in which it does business. We endeavor to serve the needs of all those who have a stake in our success -- customers, shareholders, employees and communities, as well as the larger society.

This commitment is demonstrated in a three-pronged approach to community relations that includes national philanthropic programs, local community involvement and employee volunteerism.

Toshiba America Foundation (TAF): A privately-endowed, not-for-profit grantmaking organization, TAF supports middle and high school science and mathematics education programs, projects and activities throughout the U.S. In 1994, TAF achieved a milestone, reaching the $1 million mark in grants and supported a range of projects in states across the U.S. In conjunction with Toshiba Corporation, the Toshiba America Group Companies and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), TAF also sponsor the annual Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision Awards, the world’s largest science competition for K-12 students.

Joint Community Relations Council (JCRC): Combining resources from TAIS, TAEC and TAMS, the JCRC supports diverse programs in education, the arts and humanities in communities in Southern California. Programs include:

Community-Based Initiatives: Toshiba America and its employees work together as partners to support the educational and creative aspirations of America’s young people. Our companies make significant contributions to local educational and cultural organizations across the U.S. We also support employee volunteer programs, emphasizing the arts and humanities, education, science, and technology, health, welfare and social services.

Toshiba’s community program include: sponsoring public broadcasting programs; donating color TVs to local classrooms; “adopting’ schools in disadvantaged areas; and sponsoring a variety of programs for abused and neglected children.

Environmental Responsibility: Toshiba believes that producing useful products should not result in uncontrolled consumption of natural resources. As part of its commitment to people and to the future, the Toshiba America Group Companies are proactive in their approach to protecting air, water and energy resources and promoting sustainable growth. Our programs include: voluntary participation in the EPA’s Green Lights program to reduce pollutants into the atmosphere and lower energy usage at all Toshiba sites by retrofitting them with energy saving fluorescent lamps and electronic ballasts; developing more environmentally- friendly batteries and resource-saving packaging; and designing color TVs for easier disassembly and resource recycling.
